No offense to this girl, and I dont wish to pick a fight, but I have some real issues with some of these ideas:
1 – In reference to the video game character not believing in the 3-D world and us “not believing” in an “Other world” for the same reason… Umm, dont 80-90% of people believe in God and in Heaven. It sounds like the video game character would easily believe in a 3-d world 80-90% of the time.
2 – So if God can “just exist” and didnt need a creator, why does the universe need a creator and couldnt have always “just existed” in some form or another? Its logically inconsistent to say that EVERYTHING needs a creator except for this one thing over here.

Hi, I’m the interviewee above.
Thanks for commenting! I’ll do my best to respond to them.
1) I think maybe I did not word this as well as I could have. If video game characters were living beings, then perhaps they would believe in a 3D world. But the point I was getting at was that they will not fully comprehend what it means to live in a 3D world, just as we do not fully comprehend what it means to be outside of time. But if that video game character says “Well, that world must not exist because I don’t understand it,” then he would be wrong. Just because we cannot understand something doesn’t mean that it does not and cannot exist! The point wasn’t really the video game character–that was just an example to show why dismissing an idea based on our inexperience is not a good idea.
2) The thing about the universe is that the laws of physics (specifically the Second Law of Thermodynamics) show that it is running down. Since at some point the universe has an end, then it cannot be an eternal entity. But if it is not an eternal entity, then it must have had a beginning. Since all matter is subject to the law of physics, the physical universe could not exist without being first created. How else could matter have come into being?
The reason God did not need a beginning is because He is an eternal spirit. He is not composed of matter, and so is not subject to the law of entropy. His very essence is different from the material of the universe. I think that it is logically fair to say that God and the universe, which are entirely different in composition, were not both created.
Hope these help clarify a little.

As to your answer for point one, I’ll simply say this – Just because we dont understand something, doesnt mean it could not have happened. If you need further clarification, I will be happy to provide it.
2 – In order to make the claim “God is an Eternal Spirit” you are going to need to prove that before you can just say that in an argument. What is a spirit? did God have a starting point? If he did, you are going to need to show that nothing created him, otherwise something is even more powerful than God. If not… You have big problems with physics.
Since you like the laws of physics so much, you are going to need to show that God exists and is outside of those laws and how he can affect things that are inside the laws without affecting the laws themselves.
You dont get special rules just because you want them. You either know what God is made of or you dont, and since you apprently seem to know that He isnt the same stuff that the universe is, I’ll assume you know exactly what he is made out of… please enlighten me.
